It is a joyous occasion when family and friends can gather from throughout the world to celebrate a wonderful occasion such as a Bar Mitzvah. It is particularly difficult when central figures in the family are, for one reason or another, unable to share in the event.
A number of years ago Cantor and I officiated a wedding at which the father of the groom was Unable to fly in from Israel. We got him on the cell phone and then he "stole the show" by chanting the priestly benediction to the couple over the cell. This past weekend Max Lurie became a Bar Mitzvah. His maternal grandparents could not fly in from Holland. Thanks to a new tech upgrade in the sanctuary, however, they were able to be part of the service in real time...
Thanks to The Josh Littman Video Fund of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel and Russell Kaplan we were able to stream services so that Max's grandparents in Holland could be part of the day.
